Iason in Studio with a New Song

by Ryan Canestro on Jul.01, 2010, under Studio News

In just over 6 hours today we cut a complete songs from the ground up.  We started with scratch piano, a beat, and a scratch vocal.  From there we built a drum beat, bass, piano, electric piano, percussion, and 7 vocal tracks.  A quick mix and then out the door.  Here is a picture of Iason hard at work.

All Instrument Tracking on Travisty is a Wrap!

by Ryan Canestro on Jun.30, 2010, under Studio News

We are finally on to vocals on the now over a year project.  We are going to start tracking 2 to 3 songs per 4 hour session and get this project put to bed.  We are so close now.  It is exciting to finish out a project where countless hours were spent and the focus has never been lost.  I look forward to the final product.

David Baldwin Gamble is Back to Recording

by Ryan Canestro on Jun.30, 2010, under Studio News

I asked Dave to come in to track some guitars for a demo that I cut.  I have not worked on one of my own songs in I do not even know how long.  It was fun to have him in and he laid down some amazing guitar work on the spot.  I like when he does not get the chance to plan things out… I just throw things at him and like to work that way sometimes.  Also joining us for vocals is Travis Jay.

Cameron and Friends Rock the Studio

by Ryan Canestro on May.20, 2010, under Studio News

Cameron Mooney along with his band Ben Simonds, Josh Jeffers, and Ali Hall were in the studio this Sunday cutting tracks for two of Cameron’s tunes.  We were able to get drums, bass, piano, strings, vocals, and backing vocals done.  It was pretty cool to use the new (100 year old) piano in the living room of the house on the tracks.  It worked out great.  This was a great group to work with and I look forward to getting a chance to do it again soon.

Scott Rosa in Studio Today

by Ryan Canestro on May.13, 2010, under Studio News

Scott Rosa came into the studio today to record two songs as a gift for his girlfriend.  I am sure that she will be really happy to get the presant.  We were able to do two complete tracks from the ground up.  We did complete drum, precussion, bass, guitars, mandolins, strings, and vocals.  It is a long way to go for an 8 hour session, but we made it and were still laughing and having a good time by the end.

Travis Jay – One Year Anniversary of Travisty

by Ryan Canestro on Apr.28, 2010, under Studio News

We are just about to wrap up the album.  We put some of the final instrumentation for the project.  We are so close to doing the vocals and move on to the mix portion of the project.  The new mandolin and guitar tracks finished in the wee hours this morning are some of the most interesting things that we have done so far.  Fitting that it happened exactly one full year from the original session.

Mo Carey – 3 Sessions This Week

by Ryan Canestro on Apr.28, 2010, under Studio News

Yesterday completed the third session that I have done in a week with Mo.  He is a great rap artist with some great lyrics that really puts the images in your mind.  We have already laid vocals on three complete tracks and recorded skits to be in between the tracks on this project.  I look forward to many more great sessions.  If you have not heard of this guy yet, you will before too long!

Psychobilly Session with the Cigaratz

by Ryan Canestro on Apr.19, 2010, under Studio News

The Cigaratz came into the studio yesterday to work out a demo and we made it happen.  They were able to get 7 songs down in a six hour session.  That is quite a pace.  They knocked out each song with no more than two take each.

I have never done vocal overdubs faster with anyone that I have ever worked with in my life.  They were all a single pass with only one section done twice at my request.  The mix and master part of the session was a breakneck speed, but I am very pleased with the results.  Here is one of the songs from that session.

Ditch Road Records Finally Has A Real Piano!

by Ryan Canestro on Apr.18, 2010, under Studio News

Not only do get a piano, but we got an antique that sounds great.  This beautiful instrument is very likely 100 years old.  We think that it was made in 1911, so it will hit the century mark next year.

Here is an ad that I found from 1911 that pictures what I believe to be exactly the same piano model.
