Taryn and Joey in Studio to Sing a Duet
by Ryan Canestro on Dec.28, 2011, under Studio News
Taryn and Joey came in the studio to sing a duet for a friend. I ended up producing a backing track to accompany them that they were very pleased with. It was a country song that I made less country for them. They both sang great and were wonderful to hang out with. The personalities and jokes were stellar all day long. I certainly look forward to getting a chance to work with them both again in the near future. Here is a little video taste of how the day went.
Reel to Reel Tape Transfer
by Ryan Canestro on Dec.28, 2011, under Studio News
I did a monster tape transfer project in November. This was for a client who had many old tapes of her husband that is no longer with us. It was interesting to hear all the different recordings that spanned many years and many different tape machines ove the years. There were some tapes that were mono, some stereo, and some 4-track. After many days and nights transferring, restoring, and mixing the audio, the project came to an end. The client was very moved and touched by the recordings. In the end, it was all well worth the effort.
Special thanks to Randy Coppinger for lending me his 4-track tape machine to even be able to complete the job!
Beverly and Greg Needhem In Studio
by Ryan Canestro on Dec.28, 2011, under Studio News
Beverly and Greg Needhem came to the studio first to do some last minute recording. After that first session, I spent a lot of time with the family over the next month. Beverly and Greg are very nice people and we were able to get a lot of work done in a short amount of time. We did 2 full albums of material. One album for each of them that was completed in time for Christmas. I look forward to working with them both in the new year.
Here is a quick clip of Beverly in the vocal booth.
The Undead Hearts In Studio for Many Sessions
by Ryan Canestro on Dec.28, 2011, under Studio News
Draven Midnight of The Undead Hearts was in studio almost weekly in October and November. We tracked tons of guitars and bass. The drums were already tracked by the time the project came my way. After we finished up the vocal sessions, we mixed all of the tracks. Great times and videos to follow soon.

See what happens behind the scenes of a recording studio that has little to do with the actual recording process. This session took place in October.
Recent Studio Gear Modifications
by Ryan Canestro on Oct.08, 2011, under Studio News
A listener of The Home Recording Show asked me to make a video of some recent modifications that I have made on some of the studio gear. Here are a couple fairly recent items. I have since done a couple more. I will have to make another video before too long… if I can find the time!
Kristen Castro In Studio With A Cool Track
by Ryan Canestro on Oct.03, 2011, under Studio News
Kristen is back to Ditch Road Records to work on a track for a producer that may be used by a very big name pop singer. Always a pleasure to work with Kristen on anything that she brings in.
Royce In Studio To Record A Track
by Ryan Canestro on Aug.24, 2011, under Studio News
Royce came to Ditch Road Records to work on her track “Want You to Go”. It was a very productive session. We got most of the music tracked as well as the vocals. We have no idea why, but near the end of the session while we were tracking vocals there was a huge fireworks display in the middle of town. We had to take a little break as the large booms were making it onto the track.
Travis Jay Back with a Vengence!
by Ryan Canestro on Aug.16, 2011, under Studio News
On the album project that was one of the most ambitious projects that the Travis, the studio, and myself have ever taken on… we are so close to the end I can smell it. The only thing that stopped us around 4 am from recording the last guitar track was a broken capo. We have maybe an hour or two of tracking and then we are off to do the final mixes. It is pretty safe to say that the this album will be done in two more sessions. Good thing too because Travis has written about 3 double albums already that are sitting there waiting! Great vocal takes the other night and one of the most productive sessions on the entire project.
